What's New in this Edition

The sixth edition of Pharmacy Calculations has been revised on the basis of student and instructor feedback. Changes to the new edition include:

  • All problems in the book have been checked for accuracy.
  • Many new examples and practice problems have been added throughout the book.
  • Previous (fifth) edition Chapters 3, 6, 8, and 9 covering reducing fractions, writing fractions as decimals, adding and subtracting decimal numbers, and multiplying and dividing decimal numbers have been omitted and all chapter numbers were updated accordingly.
  • Chapter 5 was revised to focus on decimals, and the content on significant figures was omitted.
  • Chapter 6 provides additional content using ratio and proportion calculations and new prescription samples were added to the practice problems.
  • Chapter 7 includes additional information for converting ratios to percents and ratios to decimals.
  • Chapter 9 was revised to include the use of Roman numerals in apothecary measures.
  • Chapter 10 includes additional content on performing calculations with density and specific gravity.
  • Chapter 12 includes content specific to insulin moved to a new chapter (Ch. 13) and also new content and examples pertaining to medication synchronization.
